THE WHISKEY SOUR

The Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Premium Whiskey (which includes bourbon)

  • 1 oz Simple Syrup¹

  • 3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice

  • Egg White

  • Maraschino or Bourbon Soaked Cherry²

The Directions

Pour all the ingredients into a shaker with ice (one egg white for two drinks). Shake until shaker is cold (don't undershake, you need to emulsify the egg white). Strain into a rocks glass or brandy snifter filled with a large ice cube and the cherry. 

Use premium whiskey, though it is not worth using the really good stuff as it will be "disguised" by the other ingreidants, though > 80 proof whiskey couldn't hurt. 

Vodka, rum and even gin can be substituted for the whiskey.

The Story

I made this drink when welcoming new neighbors to our house for the first time (the initial outing was Scotch Sours). After the second or third time I realized the importance of the egg white. While some may think it optional, it really is not as it adds creaminess to the drink that is sublime (at least when I make it). Make sure to use a fresh egg.
