Background: Backups at the Delaware toll plaza are virtually inevitable. This is a quick way to navigate around them and save a few bucks.

Watch For: Local speed limits. Slow down from highway speeds on these secondary roads. You'll still be miles ahead of your fellow travelers.

Detour: From I-95 north, take Exit 109, Route 279 toward Newark, Del. Take the first right onto Iron Hill Road. At the end, turn left onto Chestnut Hill Road. Stay on that for a bit, then turn right onto Route 896 (South College Ave) and I-95 will be about a 1/4 mile down the road. Christina Pkwy can be an alternate route.
