Background: Take the Williamsburg Bridge to cut across lower Manhattan west bound to avoid the toll on Verrazano Bridge.

Watch For: Pedestrians and traffic cops. Don’t block the box! 

Detour: Take 278W (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) to Williamsburg Bridge (exit 32). After bridge stay on Delancey St (which becomes Kenmare St.), then left on Lafayette St., and right on Canal St. Follow signs to Holland Tunnel. Bowery St. may be an alternate route depending on traffic.  

Note: The Holland Tunnel is named for its Chief Engineer, Clifford Milburn Holland.
